weekend in the lake tahoe over the weekend. caltran was able to get in there and clear out the roadways. there is snow in the forecast let me show you how things work this afternoon. this is a caltrans camera along interstate 80 at the donner summit. the road is clear, but look at the piles of fresh snow one the sides of the road here. a couple miles away, same story near the the donner lake exit. now even though the 80 looks good at the moment, caltrans is screening trucks for snow chains eastbound at applegate and westbound in truckee. now let's take a look along highway 50 in south lake tahoe. again lots of fresh new snow, but the roads are clear. maybe a little slick here. now, if you're headed to the mountains to go skiing. it's all good news. to the north, squaw valley and alpine meadows are reporting their second snowiest christmas on-record. in the past week squaw has received 70 inches of new snow. 220 inches in total so far this season. northstar has received 54 inches over the past 48 hours. to the south, heavenly also is reporting 54" of new snow just over the weekend. and f

project, we've submitted the revised exception fact sheets to caltrans. as you know, caltrans has jurisdiction over the design on van ness avenue because it is a state route. and we are working very closely with the mta to make sure that we have a really top notch design for this bus rapid transit route in san francisco, the first fully featured vrt project to come through, probably in the north american continent of this kind. and we anticipate getting an approval from caltrans in early january. the publishing of the final eirs is now slated for february and that should allow us to bring the certification actually into this board on both the federal and the state documents by march 2013. in addition to that, i want to point out that we spent the last month and a half or so negotiating with mta on a transition plan. as you may recall, the plan all along has been for the authority to clear the project environmentally and then turn it over to the mta to finalize design and get it built. and that moment has come and i'm very pleased to report that we have reached agreement. i signed

once again after the span went dark for the second time in less than two weeks. caltrans electrician responded to the problem around 7:30 last night. the blackout lasted about an hour and a half. the only lights that worked were inside the tunnel there. the traffic continued to flow no problems. >>> lights went out on the bridge about 13 days ago. caltrans blamed that outage on our stormy weather. >>> the surf along the northern california coast is approaching all-time highs this week. cbs 5 reporter anne makovec is along the embarcadero in san francisco watching for today's king tides. >> reporter: the king tides the highest seasonal tides. right now the water is not that high. but we're waiting for it to come up. the highest it will be this morning is going to be just before 10 a.m. with a 7-foot tied. we are going to see these high tides today and for the next couple of days. now, check out this video from the connector ramp from 101 to highway 1 in marin. yesterday that was flooded. and that normally only happens when there's a storm but this was caused simply by the king tides.

and an update on the conditions in tahoe. charles? >> reporter: this is a caltrans camera along interstate 80 at the donner summit. the road is clear, but look at the piles of fresh snow one the sidesa couple miles away, same story near the the donner lake exit. now even though the 80 looks good at the moment, caltrans is screening trucks for snow chains eastbound at applegate and westbound in truckee. now let's take a look along highway 50 in south lake tahoe. again lots of fresh new snow, but the roads are clear. maybe a little slick here. now, if you're headed to the mountains to go skiing. it's all good news. to the north, squaw valley and alpine meadows are reporting their second snowiest christmas on-record. in the past week squaw has received 70 inches of new snow. 220 inches in total so far this season. northstar has received 54 inches over the past 48 hours. to the south, heavenly also is reporting 54" of new snow just over the weekend. and finally this is a webcam view from kirkwood, which says it has received up to 84" of snow in the past week alone. now, the skies were clear monda
between 8pm new years eve and 6am new years day. along the peninsula, caltrans graphic caltrans will be offering free rides after 11pm through the end of service. fit they will also be running francisco after midnight to help people get home, the last one will leave at 2:15am or whenever it's full. samtrans will also be offering free rides between 11pm and 2am in the east bay ac transit, will be offering extended service on the broadway shuttle, or "free b". the shuttle will run from 7pm to 1am on new years eve. in the south bay, vta will be offering free service on all light rail and bus lines from 7:00 p.m. monday evening through 3:59 a.m. tuesday morning. they'll also have extended service on several routes. now, if you plan to drive into san francisco on new years eve keep in mind that because of the fireworks show near the ferry building, there will be traffic delays along the embarcadero between 11pm and 1am in san francisco, charles >> jacqueline: we are finally starting to see some showers and pushing inland. that will be one hour before that the serbs to press through.
